Laws, regulations and scientific validations regarding ozone
- The Ministry of Health protocol of 31 July, 1996 n°24482,acknowledged the use of ozone in the treatment of water and air as a natural aid to sterilize environments contamineated by bacteria, virus, spore, molds and mites.
- The Food and Drug FDA 26 JUNE, 2001 allows the use of ozone as antimicrobial agent in gaseous stage or in water solution in production processes.
- Document 21 CFR part 173,368 has declared ozone as a GRAS
(Generally Recognized As Safe) that is, a secondary food additive safe for human consumption.
- The USDA ( United States Department of Agriculture ) in the FSIS Directive 7120.1 approved the use of ozone in contact with raw products, also fresh cooked products and products immediately prior to packaging.
- The University of Milan has conducted studies on ozone for meat santising.
- On 27 October, 2010 the CNSA (council for the safety of food products), an advisory technical body within the Ministry of Health, expressed favorable consent on the treatment of ozone in the air of maturing cheese
enviornments.
The use of ozone conforms with the norms of hygiene of H.A.C.C.P. and on the safeguard of workers (D. Lgs 626/94).
